Class Teacher: Mr Thomas
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Brownlie
In Year 3 we have an exciting curriculum where we teach key skills in English, Mathematics, Science and Computing alongside the foundation subjects using a creative, theme based approach to learning. We will aim to go on a variety of visits and have many visitors throughout the year.
The children participate in a grammar, punctuation and spelling activities as well developing comprehension skills throughout daily guided reading sessions. We encourage reading for pleasure and the children take home their reading books every night.
We encourage children to bring interesting objects in to class or work they have done at home to show to the rest of the class. We also have regular circle time activities and lots of time to talk and share our experiences and news with each other.
Alongside reading with your child there are lots of things you can do to help your child with their learning at home. Some useful websites that your child could visit are listed below:
In Year 3 I have an open door policy and should you have any queries or concerns please feel free to pop in at the end of the day, catch me on the yard or ring to arrange an appointment at a convenient time.
Thank you in advance for all of your support.
We use Class Dojo! Please ask your class teacher for more information or click on the link below.
YEAR 3 TOPICS
There’s No Place Like Home!
This is a brand new topic. In it we will learn more about our local environment and where we live. We will use lots of different maps to discover what man made and physical features are near to us. We might even spot our houses using Google Earth!! We are going to compare Blackburn with the Lake District, looking at all the different human and physical features. In history we will be looking more at what our school was like many years ago. We have some very interesting documents and photos in school which we will delve into to discover what school was like in the past. Using ICT we will create a pic collage of our local area, using photos and maps we have downloaded. We will also create, using the ipad, an ‘imovie’ all about why St Aidan's and Mill Hill are special to us.
